Imprimatur in NYC

The talk for book makers and story tellers Imprimatur Unbinding the Book was a nice little event. The presenters were designers, makers and breakers (Brian Dettmer) of books; the idea that stayed with me from Brian’s talk was that book being rid from its original purpose due information being digitized could be completely redefined. The book as object is going through a transformation. Artists books are objects first and may be sometimes containers of information. Books are being made faster and without much pondering by some young zien makers. The closing presenter was Brian Storm who said that film like book making is story telling – especially if  book isn’t using any words. True, well made films have strong visuals. Are books becoming more film like? Are books becoming more art like – experience pieces rather than information or idea containers?
